Why we bake

After my coeliac diagnosis, the thing I missed most was bread. Real, crusty, tear-into-it bread. So Alexander and I set out to bake the gluten-free loaf I actually wanted to eat, the slow way, by hand.

From our starter to your door

How we bake your bread

Real sourdough, the slow way, made by hand in our South London bakery. 100% gluten free, free from the 14 major allergens and plant-based. No ultra-processed shortcuts.

  1. Our starter

Every bake begins with our own gluten-free sourdough starter, looked after in the bakery.

  2. Mixed by hand

Naturally gluten-free flours like brown rice, sorghum and millet, with water, salt and our starter. No gluten, no shortcuts.

  3. Slow-fermented

The dough is left to ferment for hours. That's where the tang, the depth and the open crumb come from.

  4. Baked to order

We only bake what's been ordered, so your bread comes out of the oven for you, not off a warehouse shelf.

  5. To your door

Packed straight after baking and sent on a next-day delivery service. We aim to have it with you within 5 working days of placing your order. Anything left over becomes breadcrumbs or goes to our local food bank.

First tried this gluten free bread in a cafe in Otley West Yorkshire called O'dele

First tried this gluten free bread in a cafe in Otley West Yorkshire called O'dele. Who sell freshly baked cakes which are all gluten free. Coffees and snacks. They also have a bakery which sells your gluten free seaded bread which is the best gluten free bread I've tasted. First time for nearly 2 years I can finally have toast that is crunchy and tasty with my breakfast. I want to order some more in future but I can't a to pay for the delivery charge on top of the cost of 3 loaves of your gluten free bread at the moment but I will in future when I'm a bit more financially stable.

Gorgeous robust taste and smell

Gorgeous robust taste and smell, best gf seeded bread ive ever had, and i was diagnosed coeliac in 1985. Beautifully soft when warmed for a few seconds in the microwave and lovely doughy texture whrn gently toasted. Perfectly lovely and edible when cold too, because it tastes so nice, but it is a bit dry like that so it wouldnt be everyones cup of tea.

Always excellent. Delicious gluten free bread which doesn't crumble like most. Highly recommend.

Unfortunately the bread was not cooked in the middle so very disappointing for me as its quite expensive to throw in the bin

Have ordered from this company a few times now and never been disappointed. The best gluten free bread according to my husband! Highly recommend.

The only bread that actually tastes like wheat bread

Absolutely amazing loaf! Have re-ordered in bulk as it freezes perfectly and makes for excellent toast. Honestly the only gluten free bread I could find that actually tastes like the wheat bread I used to eat, I even give it to my gluten tolerant friends!

Hi Juliet,

This is exactly what we love to hear - our loaves do freeze really well and if slicing beforehand can go straight in the toaster. Hope you and your friends continue to enjoy!

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review,

Best gluten free bread ever

This actually tastes like BREAD! It's such a relief to find a gluten free loaf that is free of oats (I cant eat oats due to the avenin content) that actually tastes and has the texture of normal good quality bread. It's great untoasted and toasted, and has a delicious flavour too. This is my go to now!!

Totally seeded loaf totally delicious

This was the first time I had tried this loaf and I really loved it: its dark, deep, textured feel and taste was full and satisfying.. I ate it with savoury toppings (cheese, Marmite or peanut butter), but I can see that it would also be lovely with something sweet. I will definitely be ordering this loaf again.

I’ve died and gone to heaven discovering this amazing tasting bread from the Gluten Free Bakery. Since becoming gluten intolerant I’ve struggled to find and have desperately missed lovely bread. Not now though ..from the seeded, to the white to the all Italian. It’s all fab!
